Harbor Scene

Artist: Carl Gune

Medium: Oil on Canvas

Dimensions: 27” x 33”

This vibrant harbor scene by Carl Gune captures a quiet marina with moored boats resting along calm waters. Simplified architectural forms and vertical masts create structure within the composition, while soft blues, warm ochres, and muted greens lend the painting a light, airy atmosphere.

Carl Gunne (1893–1979) was a prominent Swedish painter known for his landscapes, cityscapes of Stockholm and Uppsala, and portraits of notable figures including Kings Gustaf V and Gustaf VI Adolf, as well as opera singer Jussi Björling. Born in Sundsvall, he studied at Uppsala University, trained under painter Helmer Osslund in his youth, debuted in Stockholm in 1913, and later contributed to the art competitions at the 1936 Summer Olympics. His works, often reflecting a blend of realism and optimistic expression, are held in collections such as the National Museum in Stockholm.

This piece is in good vintage condition, consistent with age. Some wood trim missing on the left side of frame as seen in photographs. All artwork is sold as found, and we carefully photograph and note any visible signs of wear. In most cases, the frame and hanging materials are in their original state.
