About the Artist: Dorothy Ruhne-Sempinski (1908–1973), born in New York to Swedish parents, was a painter of landscapes, still lifes, and portraits. She studied at Harald Billmans Målarskola in Västerås (1927–1928) and Essem-skolan in Malmö (1947–1949), becoming a full-time artist. Married to Polish-Swedish painter Tadeusz Sempinski from 1951, she exhibited in Sweden, including with the Scania Art Association, and received Västerås city’s culture prize in 1954. Her works, in oil, pastel, and tempera, are in collections like Västerås and Ystad museums.
