Still Life with Pitcher

Artist: Bengt Delefors (1917-1996)

Medium: Oil on Canvas

Dimensions: 16.5” x 20.5”

This evocative oil painting captures the tranquil beauty of a seaside landscape with a soft, impressionistic touch. Measuring 10.5” x 13”, the artwork depicts a cluster of buildings perched on a rocky shore, their muted brown and red tones contrasting with the shimmering blues and grays of the water and sky. The artist’s loose brushstrokes create a dreamy atmosphere, with hints of green foliage adding a touch of life to the serene scene. Framed in an elegant gold frame, this piece is in excellent condition, its calming palette and intimate scale making it a perfect addition to any collection.

About the Artist: Erik Bengt Torgny Delefors was born on March 17, 1917, in Gesäter parish. He was a Swedish artist.

Delefors studied at the Konstgillets målarskolal in Borås from 1943 to 1947, Valands konstskola in 1948 and then under André Lhote in Paris from 1949 to 1953. Whilst in Paris he also studied at Académie de la Grand Chaumière in 1950. He studied enamel painting at the world renowned Gustavsberg's factories in 1967. Select exhibitions include a two person show with Georg Andersson at the Borås konstgalleri in 1950 and again later that year with Nini Landgren and Stig Delang in Vänersborg, with Greta Ehrnberg at Lorensberg's art salon in 1963. He showed at numerous group exhibitions at Liljevalchs konsthall in Stockholm. He had his first solo exhibition in 1951 at Lilla Galleriet in Stockholm.

He was awarded the French State Cultural Scholarship in 1952, the City of Gothenburg's Cultural Scholarship in 1975, and the State Work Scholarship in 1976 and 1980.

His art consists of an expressive figure painting, bold still lifes and interiors.

Delefors is represented in numerous public collections in Sweden including the Moderna Museet, Göteborgs konstmuseum, Borås konstmuseum, Statens konstråd and in several municipalities and county councils.

This piece is in very good condition, consistent with its vintage age, with no obvious signs of wear.

All artwork is sold as found, and we always carefully photograph and highlight any notable signs of age.
